Dumbo

Both Dumbo carousels have been open and running and on my last visit I finally checked this one off my Do It All list.  This is a really fun ride that is great for all ages though I have to say...scarier than I thought it would be!  Being afraid of heights, anything that goes more than 10 feet off the ground is mildly terrifying to me and this one feels higher than it looks once you are on it.  As a Disney classic, I'm glad I've finally done this one and highly recommend everyone add it to their list.

Magic Hours

I have out of town family members visiting and we went to Disney on Friday, June 29th.  My family bought one day hopper tickets and did 3 parks in one day.  I could never enjoy this type of marathon day.  They went early and my wife and I joined them later in the day.  We almost never have bad experiences at the Disney parks but a few things this day weren't as great as they should have been.

A family member checked the park hours online and saw that the Magic Kingdom had extra magic hours until 2:00 a.m.  Not knowing much about Disney she didn't realize that the magic hours were for resort guests only and after waiting in line for Space Mountain weren't able to board.  This wasn't Disney's fault but didn't make for a very pleasant evening.  The actual poor experience we had was when we wanted to leave the park.  For some reason the monorail doesn't run after regular hours end but there are still plenty of people that aren't resort guests that need to exit the park.  So this means everyone has to wait and then be crammed on to the ferry.  In addition, the ferry was absolutely infested with mosquito-like midges.  With and extensive operations and customer service background myself, I know how important first and last impressions are and I am surprised a greater effort isn't made for a faster and more comfortable departure from the park.  We did however have an overall great time and I am able to check off one new thing from my do it all list.  More to come!

Do It All Disney Checklists

I've started creating my actual checklists for "doing it all."  I posted the Magic Kingdom list on its own page.  So far it contains only the listed attractions, though I intend to take "do it all" much more literal.  I want to visit every shop, eat at every restaurant, stay at every hotel, and go on all of the extra tours and experiences.  Please feel free to share your experiences and suggest things to be added to my checklists.

The Magic Kingdom's Big Thunder Mountain Railroad

I was disappointed to hear that Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, in the Frontierland area of the Magic Kingdom was closing for renovations. We had out of state visitors in March that hadn't been to Disney for years and it was a shame they would miss it. This is one of my favorite attractions. It is fast and exciting but tame enough for most families (and for me.) One rides a runaway train through an abandoned gold mining town. Now that renovations are complete, definitely add this one to your Do It All List.

Magic Kingdom Fantasyland Construction Update

I would ordinarily avoid visiting Disney at the end of June, but sometimes out of town visitors have other ideas.  Today we went to the Magic Kingdom.  The crowd wasn't as large as during spring break, but still enough to not be very enjoyable to me.  We did take some pictures of the progress of the new Fantasyland.  Things seem to really be progressing and more is open already.  I hadn't read until today that Snow White's Scary Adventures was closing for good.  I guess that is one I will never experience.  I am a little surprised about the addition of the "Splash n' Soak Station."  I know that splash parks are very popular but feel like they are a bit cliche for Disney.  I am anxious for the entire area to be open and think that it will add a lot to the overall experience of the Magic Kingdom.

Dumbo the Flying Elephant

As part of the largest expansion in Magic Kingdom history, the new Dumbo the Flying Elephant carousel is now open.  The original carousel is being refurbished.  When the entire area is complete both carousels will be next to each other and each fly in different directions.  I've seen this attraction dozens of times but never been on it.  It is on my checklist and will be sure to try it the next time I am at the Magic Kingdom.  My two year old nephew will give me a good excuse so I don't look odd!  I can tell you even without riding it that this classic attraction is a must do for any family with children.
